11:11-China’s Singles Day
November 11 (11-11) is China’s biggest e-commerce sales day, known as China’s Singles Day- China’s largest online shopping festival.
This year, 2020 marks the 12th instalment of the Global Shopping Festival, breaking old records and creating new ones.
The Festival commences at 12 am on 11th November, over 250,000 brands get fired up for the long night. This Year the launch Gala took place in Shanghai and the launch in Hangzhou.
About16 million discounted products on offer, among them, over 3 million making their 11.11 debuts, Alibaba provides its merchants, brands and consumers with new and innovative technology-namely the XiaomanLV,” the newest addition to the delivery fleet of Alibaba’s logistics unit, Cainiao. The XiaomanLV robots are expected to deliver 30,000 packages by the end of this year’s 11.11.
“Alibaba hopes to make a contribution to the Chinese economy. We feel the Chinese economy doesn’t lack external demand but internal demand is much needed and we are fortunate enough to be able to tap this demand,”

The e-commerce company-Alibaba estimated that the Final GMV for 2020, Global Shopping Festival was $74.1 billion.
This Shopping festival touched various categories such as Home decor(a popular product category), cars(50,000 sold), household tools(200,000+ products sold). It also touched other parts of the group’s business beyond its marketplace websites.
Alibaba also estimates that 27,000 merchants and 42,000 brands were involved in the 11/11 sales this year. That covers Tmall, Taobao, and also its AliExpress and Tmall Global services for customers outside of China.
About 800+ reporters were to be seated at the live Gala in Shanghai’s Mercedes Benz Arena, to record and bring to the world this festival, containing virtual performances from Famous celebrities like Katy Perry.
Along with all these techy stuff, there were live streaming booths for influencers, media and live streamers to bring the festival to their fans.
Clothes made at the Xunxi Digital Factory were being showcased, Fresh from Xunxi’s production line, brand-new T-shirts were made during 11.11 pre-sale period and were ready to ready within days of orders.
